additional charge cntrl needed?

I've got a friend who is selling their wind turbine setup at a pretty big discount. It has 2 components that I think I can use.

1: Xantrx Power Hub 1800W Inverter/Controller.
Backup Power | PowerHub 1800 | Xantrex
2: 2 glass mat batteries.

After reading the install manual it says that for solar an additional charge controller is required between the PV panels and the Power Hub. Does anybody know why this would be?

Howdy Alf,

I have no experience with that equipment but I looked at the manual. It appears that the PowerHub does not contain any sort of solar charge controller. So, it doesn't require an "additional" solar charge controller (which implies that one already exists). That's how I read the manual...

JD,
I was reading the manual, and it does have a charge controller to maintain the battery system, but it appears that this unit was primarily designed for use as a backup to an existing AC system. I am going to pass on this deal, the unit is a bit bulky for my use, and it really would only be a deal if I could use it as is.

Thanks again,
