Alternator and charging question

Ok, so I have a Wilson Alternator. It has dual battery posts on it. Rated 160a. Has anyone used a dual battery output to charge their house batteries too? I am guessing that I can do this if I have dual outs on the alternator.

I figured this would be a good way to run my inverter off the house batteries as we travel for 110. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I can't say that I have ever heard of a Wilson brand electrical component. Since it is a Canadian company that doesn't really surprise me.

If you have one or two outputs for your alternator you should not have any problem charging your house batteries or running your invertor while the bus engine is running. The important thing you have to do is put isolators into the circuit so that you will never get in the position of running your starting batteries down so far you won't be able to restart your engine.

I charge both my sets of batteries using my Bosch SB200, 200 amp alternator.. my isolater is designed only to turn on when the voltage is above 12.7 meaning im charging.. i can override it with a switch on the dash if I need to use my house batteries as an extra starter boost.. I have run my house batteries pretty dead before and the alternator never gave me issues bringing all back up..

my isolater will cycle sometimes if the house batteries are dead and im idling.. just because the dead batteries pull the system voltage down till they begin charging.. my isolator has minimum timers set in it so it doesnt joggle like crazy.. I think its 30 seconds minimum on and 30 seconds minimum off unless I override it with the dash switch.

I dont like to use the dash switch as the tendency to forget it.. though I did just install lighted switch to help that..

What isolator are you using?

its from Powerstream. it is the PST-SBI-3112 (at least thats what I wrote down). I used a heavier solenoid (150 amp).. I'd have to find where i got that from. I may have gotten the solenoid at Jegs performance parts here in columbus..

the one that came with the isolater kit was 100 amp.

I think I am going to put in my battery switch to disconnect the house so I don't draw current through the Alternator during starting... Thanks guys. Simple is better
