found a great deal on batteries, but need help

found a guy that demoed a backup power station and got about 200

enersys datasafe 12hx505-fr batteries 12 volts 119 amp hrs

Nominal Voltage: 12
WPC (watts per cell) for 15 min. to 1.67 VPC at @ 25°C: 506
Short Circuit Current (A): 4,510
Max Discharge Current: 913
Internal Resistance (mΩ): 3
Dimensions (inches): 13.3 x 6.8 x 10.7
Weight: 110 lbs

hes selling them for 105 dollars each and it seems to be a great deal.

my question is if they would be good to use on my bus for my inverters. and how deep you can cycle these batteries without hurting them. they are not considered deep cycle batteries but were only in use for about a year on a backup power station. please give me some insight. batteries are so expensive and if these turn out to be applicable it would really help

Those are or were topgrade batteries for that application. But you can't tell by looking at them. Remove the caps on the ones you want to buy and check with a battery hygrometer. Is the electrolyte low in any cells? The hygrometer floats a ball which reads the condition and that is what you go by as it should be marked on the viewing area as to specific gravity. Do that on each cell of thee battery and if they are all close you likely will be ok to buy that one.
Looking at the weight of them suggests a lot of plates inside and they have been on backup charge too since put into duty.
Price is good but no warranty so buyer beware.

he said they were in service for 3.5 years so they have about 6.5 years left in their suspected life span. he has like 70 of them, and they all are between 12.8-13.6 volts that i saw him test. what else should i be testing when i go to buy them? if they are 119 ah and i get 5 and i only discharge them to 50% i will have about 300ah of power that would keep me running for days

Have a look at the general appearance and cleanliness. Sometimes the casings will have cracks. What about the terminal conditions? Any telltale signs of abuse or excessive corrosion?
Has the seller got the cables that connected them together too? If so buy what you can as they will be professionally made and dependable. They can be costly depending on size and type of lug. Use only copper.
Maybe you can get a better deal if you buy quantity. I'd put one in all my vehicles so send me 5 for now, lol.

I am keeping my eye out for a good deal on batteries. This post caught my eye and caused me to question:

Is this a better deal than the new T-105's that I can buy for $109 ?

2 x T-105's in series = 12v @ 207AH (10-hr rate)(new-factory warranty) for $218
vs.
2 x 12hx505-fr in paralell = 12v @ 238AH (8hr rate)(used- no warranty)) for $210

What do you all think?

Thanks.

S.

Where are you getting t105s for 109$? I'd take them over these in a heart beat. Price is mind and a warranty is worth those few amp hours especially when you factor in the lifespan

How long is the warranty and can you tell when the batteries were built and where? Power plant batteries have been trickle charged all along so should be as new with no sulphation on the plates. And they still have approximately 6.5 years of life left. Money shouldn't be the only factor and I guess proximity to the sources for each battery.
Hopefully an engineer could comment on this thread, must be one out there.
