Mounting GenSet4000

The muffler on this unit hangs below the box. My question is, should I cut a slot for the muffler to clear through the floor, or open the hole up for more ventilation and screen the hole with expanded metal?
Probably mount a 2 ga.gas tank like this in there.

Are you installing this genny inside your bus?
2 gallon tank won't last very long with that running full throttle!

It's going in the left rear storage bin. I can add more fuel capacity, would 5ga. be enough?
I was looking at this 10ga. , will probably just go with it.

A small Honda will run about 8 hours, give or take, on 1 gallon.

If you want to camp for a weekend and don't carry extra gas cans, you'll be running to the gas station pretty regularly.
Don't know the Onan fuel usage but there must be info on it somewhere if you don't have their manual.

I've seen those genny's plumbed into the vehicle's fuel tank, but if your bus is diesel, forget that...

You'll probably want to open the back side of that compartment for added cooling/ventilation, especially if you run it with the outer door closed.
Expanded metal on the floor might not be a bad idea as well.

Most of those Onan units on manufactured campers are hung from the floor with all sides open for cooling purposes.
The sheet metal covers they come with provide protection from road debris pretty well.

That sucker should be on a slide out tray for maintenance so you would need a slot not just a hole for the muffler to move outward. They come with one usually and well bolted down. Expanded metal sure helps cooling but lots of dirt sucks in from outside. The more gas you carry the better, doesn't all need one tank but the fuel pump on that should draw from a reasonable distance with some gravity help. What is the floor of that bin made of?

It's a standard metal storage box. If the fuel cell sits in the same bin I shouldn't have any concerns on pump location and line length.

Fuel cell for you...
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-290102/overview/

There's a ton more with different capacities and in plastic, aluminum, or steel.

The heat from that gen running in an enclosed compartment would probably not be good for a plastic fuel tank mounted that close?

As I mentioned earlier, running that unit in an enclosed bin/compartment probably won't end well for you, the genny, or possibly your bus as well.

Research how Onan generators are typically mounted on motorhomes before you get yourself in trouble and out some serious $$...

Here's a no load fuel consumption test.

There is no locating the fuel pump, it's on the engine.

That will need a battery too or cable run from some of your other power for the starter.
They do make heat at 3600rpm so needs a ton of air as others mentioned.
So no slideout? Gonna be fun repairing that then in that installation.
