Saw the coolest gadget today!

A co-worker of mine is on fire department...
He gave me a tour of their new truck they got today!

He showed me the trucks are plugged into air & electric full time while in the station.
He jumped up in the driver's seat and started the truck, and the air hose and extension popped off when he turned the ignition on.

Made by kussmaul, the outlet has a center pushrod plunger that's pushed in when you plug in... When the key is turned on, a solenoid is energized and releases the plunger to push the cord out.

Not sure how the air hose connection works yet, and this stuff may be old news... But, I thought it was pretty damned cool!


I guess the center ring pushes out and hits the outer ring on hose coupling...

The technology and attention to detail on the new fire truck is simply phenomenal!!!

Walked into a brand new fire house, and crawled around on a brand new fire truck.... Coolest thing I've done in a few years.
On their 3000 gal tank truck, there's 3 stainless steel dump gates that measure about 16" square... Throw the lever and the whole tank will empty in a couple minutes!

The captain's daughter made this flag out of two 50' hoses...
I told him the only thing missing was a dedicated spotlight shining on it.

an auto cord loser. lol, i lose enough cords, dump hoses, anything that can be left behind at camp. that ejector is not for me.

I found this on Amazon - wow - pricey - $700+! This looks like it could be a great DIY project for me to tackle while I am on the road! Bookmarked! Seems it would not be difficult to find an off the shelf plunger and modify a plug to work with it passing through the center. I would also tie it into the power distro system where I will have fire suppression and overload protection. This would be great as a fail safe to disconnect from bad power!
