temp sender question

howdy -

i just broke my new temperature sensor for my new transmission gauge. its the shiny silver one, and should have 2 wires coming out of it.

i have another temp sensor, bigger, more truck like. are temp sensors universal?

i check the resistance across both and the silver one was 2500 ohms, at the same temp, the copper one was 7300 ohms.

if its just off a bit, i think i'd use it. the hole needs to be 1/2" vs the smaller sensor @ 1/8"npt thread.

i can tap the side plug for the little one, or id just get a bushing for the bigger one.

whatcha think?

Every electric gauge is specific to the sender. Changing the resistance is going to give you wildly incorrect readings.

Bite the bullet and purchase another sender.

Most of the time they are less than $20.00. At that price it isn't worth messing around with something else.

dang! the cost isn't the issue, time and the fact that its new and broke are the issues.
the ones i see online are less than $5 but in china, 3-4 week delivery.

i was hoping to get it all back together this week. trans, with gauges.

maybe i'll see if i can resolder this one and just order a new one anyway for when it arrives.

thanks
