Won't start, throws an OPEN code

Hey guys,

my bus won't start. I figured out a code it displayed was saying there is an open short(I think), and I don't really understand how to find the short. Any tips or previous experience with the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
So is the bus cranking at all?
If it is cranking is there any smoke at all coming out of the exhaust when cranking?

I think you mean turning over by cranking? No, not at all. There is some quick clicking when I turn the key, but then silence.

Yeah cranking/turning over same thing.
Do you know how to jumper the starter directly?
There is a solenoid mounted directly to the starter, one terminal (the large one) has a thick wire that feeds it power straight from the batteries, then there is a small terminal that prob has several wires connected to it. Using a piece of wire or screw driver, short those 2 out and see if it cranks, it prob will, if the key is turned on before doing this you can start it up like this.
You prob have a open in the starter interlock from a roof hatch or E-door that either isn't closed all the way, broken/cut wire, or bad switch.

I went through this myself and wired up a push button start straight to the starter trigger (small terminal) so I can always bypass the interlock junk.
IF you need I can make a video real quick to show you how to do it if you have no clue what I'm talking about.

Are the batteries fully charged? I would check that first. Low batteries will often just result in some clicking noises followed by silence.
