12-volt fresh water pump

Do fresh water pumps have to have a pressure tank setup? Is a 2.8 gpm pump large enough?

Re: 12-volt fresh water pump

So a pressure tank is needed, what can I use to build one? Do I install it right after the pump? Is there any type of special fitting or valve that needs to be in the line because of the pressure tank?

I plan to have a kitchen sink, toilet and tank-less hot water heater.

Re: 12-volt fresh water pump

I bought a surge tank from an RV supply, it's about the size of a large potato and does a good job. If you buy one for a shallow well pump it might be too large, I'm not sure. I would reccommend using one or the pump will cycle all the time and burn up. Also the RV style surge tank has pipe threads which I screwed right to my pump and then a fitting to run PEX tubing on the other side which I also reccommend using. I also got a sediment bowl/screen type filter to keep unwanted uglies out of my water supply and pump. Don't forget to drain all this when winter comes or it will all freeze. sportyrick

Hi Rick, thanks for the post (and everyone else as well).

I am checking Google for them now, I found this tank here for about $40.00 bucks Click, that's not bad.

Re: 12-volt fresh water pump

that picture is exactly what I have. It does hold a little water and keeps the pump from running all the time. You can get about a cup of water out of the system before the pump starts up or if you have a dripping faucet it will keep the pump from running constantly on and off. It doesn't take much water loss to drop the pressure and start the pump if a bladder isn't present. It's a smaller version of the system that I had with my deep well pump when I lived in the country. sportyrick
