The reason I decided not to drop my shower pan into the floor was mostly because the holding tank would then need to be lower than I want it. A person could put in a pump but then its just something else to malfunction and/or freeze up.

Can you post some pictures of your bathroom? I'm planning to install a horse trough, but I'm not sure how to do it.

Pump options

I know this thread is a bit old, but some other people might be in the same boat I am: I lowered the shower pan but I have no idea what to do about a pump (or if I even need one).

The Sanishower pump suggested above would work I'm sure, but I am wondering if there is a less expensive solution. Any thoughts on just using this? Most shower heads are less than 2gpm.

I'm doing the same thing (tub projecting below the floor) but my plan is to have the gray water tank slung low so that the tub drains into it naturally, so no pump would be needed. This will put the bottom of the gray water tank near the bottom of the skirt; some people might want more clearance than that, but I don't plan on any off-roading.

i'm following this. i had this exact idea because my hubby is 6 ft tall and i'd like for him to be able to shower standing up. I'd also love to be able to take a bath so a horse trough has definitely been on my "watching for" list.

I'm doing the same thing but with this step tub: https://www.campingworld.com/sit-in-...ite-68807.html projecting below the floor. If you can weld and have access to some reasonably-priced scrap metal, it's pretty easy and cheap to do on a school bus. One caveat is that to have an all-gravity-fed drainage system into a gray water tank, your clearance is fairly tight. I don't want my gray tank to be sticking below the side skirt, so I'm restricted to a flat 9" tank and a hepvo valve, which is a horizontal alternative to a p-trap.

However, you can also install a system where the dropped shower drains into a small temporary tank, from where it's pumped uphill into a higher-mounted gray tank. I didn't opt for this because I want my setup to be as simple and cheap as possible.

Edit: just realized I said basically the same thing two posts earlier. Ah well ...

So far no problems. Because my bus is so short I also cut a hole in the roof for more headroom. I used 2" of foam to insulate under the floor and in the roof. As can be seen in the final picture, the front wall of the bath made a perfect place to hang the TV/DVD thingy.

When I saw that I felt like I was in a 747 for a second. Very nice work there.
