Knowledge for some Crap
Hey all,
Hope your week is well! I am posting in this specific thread because I definitely need someone to review my plumbing plans. We will be using a tankless water heater that runs off D batteries. Any and all help is appreciated! Attached is my design from an underneath view then side view. Will pay for help if necessary.
Will be switching to compost toilet if we have leftover funds for it.

I built our composting toilet for less than $100.
Cheaper than an RV toilet and no black tank.

Thank you! That is amazing to hear. I am 100% going to look into that. The one I found by Nature Something was $1k.

It is crazy what a commercial bucket to crap in costs.
I have less than $50 in mine. $4 Homer Bucket, $6 funnel, $35 liquid tank. Build around it.

The urine diverter was the Lions share of the cost. I think it was $54.

I am not sure. I tried a $3 funnel and a $4 funnel. I didn't try a $6 funnel.
My urine diverter works MUCH better than the tunnels that I tried. Especially for the ladies. I did also try copying an example that I saw over at Permies made from a chopped up Homer bucket.

If you do decide to go with a commercial unit, the Nature's Head is a top quality setup. The trick to it is getting over the sticker shock. We're very happy with ours.

Just to chime in about funnel vs diverter... Our diverter is marginally better for me but substantially better for her.
Our DIY is so much better than the commercial offerings. We've got a full size toilet seat and a 30 second process to change it every week. The nature's head/air head/etc with a composting base material and a mixer is nasty enough to make a black tank look almost reasonable!

That pretty much mirrors our experience.
The only thing that I have found to be advantageous with the commercial units with poo stirers is that they knock down the " pyramid" that forms in the bucket. I like that feature but not enough to overcome the negatives that come with it's.

I think I'll still with my standard residential porcelain throne and black tank.....
Having to deal with composting mess is just nasty. We don't boone dock much anyways so it's generally hooked into septic or sewer. Thankfully I had a good 60gal black tank from an RV I junk out.

I have never seen anybody complain about one, I've never seen one new for less than $950, and I've never seen a used one for sale ever. Seems like it might be a good product.

What if you put the bucket on a Roomba? Then you'd always be pooping in a random part of the bucket and there'd be no pyramid.

Hey all!
This turned into a very awesome thread. I was away for a family emergency but am back! I like the simplicity of some of your ideas. We are definitely going to go Compost at this point.
Thank you for all the feedback so far! Really does simplify a lot of the process.
