swapping traditional rv toilet for composting toilet

Hi
We are in process of finding our first bus. We are looking for a partial or full conversion. We are interested in a partial conversion that has a regular RV toilet(an old one. yuck. ) How big of a project is it going to be to swap that old nasty toilet for a composting toilet?
Thanks!

Start with a wrench, screwdriver, multiple 5-gallon buckets, long-sleeved rubber gloves, and a full-face respirator.
Easy-peasy!
(Might want a pressurized hose on standby, and clothing-optionally friendly neighbors, too...)
Duct tape over the pre-existent hole, and, as the French are wont to say:
WAA-la!

The last one I did was quite simple.

Unbolt old toilet, disconnect & cap water supply, remove toilet, cover the toilet flange and bolt the new one in place.

I did later plumb the urine diverter to a larger tank outside.

It was sold with full disclosure of what occurred. Buyer did not have a problem with it.

I am about to reinforce my love for composting toilets.

Tomorrow I have to replace both of the holding tank valves on my trailer...

THERE WILL BE NO BLACK TANK IN MY BUS!!! Never. No way. No how!

So...
I'm gonna be guessing that I can't interest you in purchasing the 2nd (utterly unused) black tank I'm thinking of selling..?

Come change these dump valves for me and I'll give it some thought.

Funny, I'm going to be doing this soon too! I'll probably just cap any lines. But it's an (hopefully!!!!) empty black tank under the toilet so it should be easy-ish. I've had the trailer 4 years and used it once to pee in while it had running water. It hasn't had running water 98% of the time I've lived in it (I use my parents' house for the bathroom). Then I'm going to use a DIY composting toilet with one of the Johnnycomposting urine diverters.

Good luck! I hope your (toilet ;) ) conversion goes well.

I hadn’t seen JohnnyCompost before! Awesome stuff. (And for those looking, it’s an Etsy store selling 3D printed urine diverters and vent accessories...)

People make such a big deal out of poop. I’ve done plumbing for years. It’s not bad. Though I do favor full face masks nowadays.

I use and Airhead now after running one on the boat. Never looked back and on my third install now. I removed the black tank and installed a new tank for grey water I can drain on either side. I was lucky to have a city sewer hook up at the shop so it was a couple of flushes of the black tank with some sulfuric acid to clear out the organics and it went to the dump after cleaning it. Biggest issue is disposal of the black tank responsibly. You should make an effort to clean it out.

I saw no point in keeping the black tank on board and it made sense to have a grey water tank in its place. I installed a float switch in the grey tank that tells me when its about two thirds full. Only issue with the composting toilet is to make sure you have room to service it when installed. Maintenance is a breeze then.
