Ventless Tankless Water Heater Safety

Hello, friends!

I recently came across some tankless hot water heaters that are marketed as "ventless", stating that they have low oxygen sensors, etc. for occupant safety. I'm wondering if anybody has experience with these?

I feel like this is the same discussion as catalytic propane heaters, the question or whether or not venting is required.

My thoughts lead me to believe that a ventless propane tankless water heater may actually be safer than a ventless propane space heater, in the sense that it will only be running for a fraction of the time that a space heater would. My girlfriend and I take very quick showers, 10 min max with very low flow, which supports my thoughts.

Feedback is appreciated!

The only "ventless" I have seen have an oxygen sensor built in that will shut the unit down if CO2 builds up And like you, I won't be running a water heater long enough to worry about it using up all my oxygen.

Now a heater...that's a different story.

Either way, best to install a CO2 alarm anyway. Plus a, LPG/propane sensor/alarm.

Perhaps a CO monitor?

CO2 buildup is typically not a problem.
