Appliances

Doing some research on appliances right now.

I found mention of the Thor Washer/Dryer combo. The only negative consistent comments I have seen is load size. I am a single guy, it will just be me so I don't think that is an issue. Aside from load size has anyone heard anything else about the Thor unit? Would you prefer another combo?

Where the refrigerator is concerned I would like one that has a choice of power sources (propane, direct electric or battery). Several have been listed on craigslist but they are always ones out of an RV being scrapped or parted. Is it better to buy new or do those units in general have a good shelf life?

Thanks for any suggestions and help.

Started the account for the bus, only a couple hundred in there now but will save that much each check. Getting pretty excited.

I've got a washer/dryer I'm about to stick on CL for cheap. Where are you located?

East Coast CB, I am NE of Atlanta about 30 minutes but not in a position to buy one right now.

Just started back to work after a long illness, but getting stronger everyday and doing well.

Thank you though.

We're a couple and I am a lady of generous size We have in our apartment a Panda XPB36 and we love it. It's a twin-tub washer; agitates on one side, spin on the other. We hang our clothes to dry and even in the Ohio humidity in the summer, it takes about a day to dry (way less, of course, in the winter when they're hanging over a floor vent!). It takes between 32-40 gallons of water a week to do 4 loads of laundry on the weekend. We've had it for not quite a year and still love it. It's manual, you can't just "set it and forget it," but it saves on laundromat costs and feels a lot easier on the clothes. We did have to buy lint filters for while it's washing, otherwise there was a lot of lint still on the clothes.

When we get Wanda the WanderingBus home, we have a closet in there that we plan on using partly as a drying closet so we'll do laundry daily-ish and hang the clothes in there with the window cracked for air flow. It's currently on Amazon for about $140.

Dual tub uses a lot less electricity than a combo. Where do you plan on getting your electricity?

Where we're moving in April is an RV/mobile home park so we'll have full hookups at $460 a month. We'll figure out long term plans once we're working again.

Or on the alternative side there is the $49 Wonderwash which uses no power and takes up relatively little space. With that you could use a spin dryer. There's one on the market from "laundry alternative inc" that uses just 190 watts and can take a 22 lb load of clothes for only like $160. They also make a smaller counter top version of the same dryer for about a hundred bucks less...
