Mini-split warranty question?

Hey Everyone,

I have been looking at the Pioneer mini-split a/c's for my bus.

I found that they come pre-charged and can be self installed. I have a vacuum pump and access to the appropriate gauges.

I also found that Pioneer says that they won't honor the warranty unless you have it professionally installed. They want a warranty form with installer details filled out.

I called every HVAC outfit in town and asked if they would come out and evacute, pressure test and charge the a/c's. Every one told me no.

What has your experience with this been?

It is a bit of a concern to me as I have read many reviews and noted a handful of electronic component failures mentioned.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

S.

minisplits are still VooDoo to some people... HVAC installers want to do the whole job.. they see minisplits as a threat to their livelihood of installing and servicing standard HVAC systems.. so a DIY who bolts up the unit then wants them to charge it is seen as lost $$ for them and they will refise many times.. esp in a mobile application when 410A isnt even designed as a mobile refrigerant, and minisplits are designed as fixed refrigeration units.. my guess that by mounting them in a bus all warranties are null and void anyway.

in some jurisdictions homeowners arent allowed to touch any part of an A/C even if they arent working directly with the refrigerant.. in those areas licensed contractors must do the job start to finish..

I understand what you are saying. They want to sell me a $2500 (installed) unit not a $150 service call.

I was considering installing one in my house as well and that is what I asked them about. I didn't mention the mobile install.

Has anyone here had any warranty experience with self installed mini-splits?

Has anyone here had any warranty experience?

Any luck finding a licensed installer to sign off on their install?
