Want to get rid of roof AC

We just got a 2001 E450 Micro Bird and it has a roof AC that doesnt work. The guy that we got it from already unhooked the whole mess of wires. I want to just take it off and cover the bolt holes. I know the refrigerant will *legally* need to be removed, but does anyone know if the lines tie into the main AC lines and compressor? Say if it were to be removed, would i need to cap those lines somehow? Or could the refrigerant just be recovered and then the lines removed.

Most roof top AC units are self contained so there are no lines ran to it.
All the stuff is under that little doghouse.

If it's an RV style rooftop AC unit then there won't be any hoses to disconnect but I'll bet your unit is connected to the engine mounted compressor.

If that's the case it's best to have the refrigerant recovered then plug the hoses to keep moisture out. My E450 had no condenser coil at the radiator so when I took off my rear AC I lost my front AC too. To get it back I had to install a condenser coil and replace some of the hoses then evacuate the system and add new refrigerant. The dash AC control wiring was changed by the bus manufacturer and I had to put that back to what Ford originally had installed.

This helps. I guess i need to check and see if i have a condenser coil somewhere underneath the hood or body and go from there. The guy i got it from had unhooked all the wiring from the rear AC but said the front AC still worked. I havent confirmed this.
