Windows, curtains, & insulation

Hey everyone,

I was watching this video:
https://youtu.be/poquS-sU8zI

My husband and I like this couple’s videos

And I was wondering if curtains make a real difference for helping to insulate in winter? We’re planning to keep several of the bus windows.

If curtains do help, what type of curtains would you recommend?

I know some vids recommend UV curtains to keep the sun out to cool the bus, do they also help to keep cold air out and heat in?

Thank you so much

Regular curtains that hang down will help keep the sun from heating up the interior but they need to be heavy enough or doubled to do the job. In cold weather, they need to pretty much seal against the window to stop the cold from "leaking" in. Better to make some inserts from a real insulating material such as Reflectix.

Just my 2 cents.

Passive solar homes use heavy insulating curtains, yes sealing up around the glass is better.

Rigid insulation panels on the outside best of all.

I agree with insulated drapes close to the glass. In fact any curtain is better than none imho. They stop a lot of drafts too and I like to be able to use my windows at any time so i just throw more hardwood in the fire and all is good.

I've installed UV and solar blocking film on my windows, Reflectix panels over them and curtains over all that. Comparatively, the curtains are there mostly for appearances. The biggest improvement came from the Reflectix.

Very heavy floor length drapes would probably help in the winter if you ceiling and floor are properly insulated.

There is a lot of glass area in the front of my bus. I've been thinking of getting some moving blankets from Harbour Freight to close off the driver's compartment from the rest of the bus during times of serious cold. It might be warmer just to stay home.
