Building a Goat Tote

Howdy from SE NC. I am new to the Skoolie world and I am planning on doing a non conventional build. I have always had some crazy car project going so this falls right in line. I am looking to build a bus to haul a few goats. 😳🤔

Here are my reasons so y’all can tell me if I am crazy. (I know crazy goat lady but is my plan viable?)

First and foremost we live in Hurricane alley and I need to be able to evacuate my goat herd. We evacuated last year as we lost our house in the flood aftermath of Hurricane Florence. Found some new dirt and rebuilding now.

Next reason - I want to my interior build to have a bit of a “barn” feel to it as I would like to take my rig (and goats) to retirement homes, Alzheimer’s units and I already have a request to visit a domestic violence shelter. Goats are very therapeutic animals. I think I want a wheelchair ramp on my bus so the visitors could come in the bus to visit (hence the barn theme) with the goats as well as I have a plan to unload them for visits at the facilities.

And next reason would be for some side income for our Second Chance Farm so the goats can go out to different venues for visits. Also down the road I would like to expand my herd and hire them out for some organic land clearing. So it would be nice to have a vehicle capable of pulling a trailer.

So there you have it - my crazy reason for wanting a bus. I want to go with a short bus just for the ease of driving and maneuvering around.

I’ve been browsing on govdeals and NC Surplus, FB marketplace, etc.

Any suggestions? Must do’s or don’t do’s?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Should be easy to find a wheel chair bus -- seems like most peeps don't want that feature...

After stripping and treating the floor for rust I'd spray with a quality p'up truck bed liner like raptor liner so you can easily park on a slope and wash the inside of the bus out.
I realize goat poop is dry but the urine is hard on metal -- ie: RUST
