Question. My bus has a 3800 with T444e 7.3L. What size batteries are recommended that I should get

Some of us use a large 8D battery. Others use two golf cart batteries, AGM31 I think.

So how is 101 running?

It all depends upon what you have in there right now.

If it has multiple Group 31 with studs you will need to change the cable ends for lugs if you change to 8D batteries.

If it has multiple 8D batteries with lugs you will need to change the cable ends if you change the batteries to Group 31 with studs.

Both have pros and cons. I prefer the studs as I don't have as much of a problem with corrosion with the studs as I do with the lugs.

Regardless of which size the battery case is make sure as you price compare that you are comparing apples to apples. I was looking at one set of 8D batteries that had a very attractive price until I looked at what the CCA rating was. The low price 8D's had a lower CCA rating than some of the Group 31's which were lower priced than the 8D's.

Compare the CCA rating and then the price knowing that just because it has a certain size case doesn't determine how much juice can be stored inside of it.

you can buy group 31 batteries about anywhere.. as ECCB may have mentioend, see if you have a rural king near you.. i think you can buy group 31s at walmart. even a single battery will probably start that bus being that its summer time.

Yeah RK has 31's for $79.99. They even go on sale occasionally!
I started my bus with one when I got it. One battery fired bus 50 in 11f Kentucky winter. There were icicles in the bus.
Of course, this bus has an all mechanical DT466, so its easy to start and doesn't need any battery power to run.

I started mine once on 1 battery - the post wasn't even tight, it was sort of just laying loosely on the post.

Then again, the 9.0L has no electronics to power .... not even any glow plugs.

Being that it's summer and if yourvebgine is on good shape you can start a 444e on a single battery just to get you going, have you got that bus driving yet?

even in 0 degree F weather, I cranked both my busses with 2 batteries.. and older batteries at that,, mnt DT-360 wasnt even plugged in and it still started.. my T-444E with just one glow-plug cycle started up just like it was 60 degrees outside..

I think opne big reason for going to 3 batteries is at idle or near idle in winter.. dark putside, every heater fan blasting, all lights on, etc.. the alternator cant keep up.. and most school busses are idling from one bus stop to the next.. more batteries helps with that..

the way we use our busses.. they are iether parked or are going on longer runs where the batteries have a better chance of staying charged.
