Bus from Ohio?

I have an option to purchase a 2001 International that has 137k miles with a 444E and Allison. The price is right but my concern is the bus is from Ohio with "very little surface rust". I live in Oregon and I'm not familiar with the Great Lakes states. Should I be overly concerned with the rust or the harsh weather on a 14 year bus? Eventually I'll sand down the body and repaint.
Thank you

I have lived in the "rust belt" of Ohio all my life. If that bus is from Northern Ohio , it will lots of rust issues. If its from central/southern Ohio it should have little rust. What city is it from? Or is it a dealer? A lot of times bus dealers get buses from allover, some are clean and some are rusty.

I don't even look at buses from Ohio or Michigan... Iowa is also bad. Rust rust and more rust.
Check out this MOUNTAIN bus, it would be a GREAT start!
Public Surplus: Auction #1396492

THIS bus is so rad, I put in a bid and was winning but have been outbid already. I'd go higher but I'd have to get it 2000 miles home and I already have a bus... but this one is a cream puff, in my opinion-
Public Surplus: Auction #1398705

Both these buses have high HP, driveline retarders, little or no rust, 4.44 rears, and allison 643 trans...
These are what you need for crossing the Rockies.

Hi Leadsled 01,
Thanks for the input! It's in Stow, OH so Northern. I would be purchasing it from Public Surplus (right from the school district). I was the low bidder but it didn't meet the reserve: meaning I have the option to not buy it and the seller has the option not to sell it. It's dirt cheap and the seller will accept the bid. I need to decide if I'm going to go for it.

Hi EastCoastCB,
I looked at the buses you suggested. Nice buses but I'm looking for a flat nose bus.

Stow is the next town over from me. Maybe you can arrange for me to go look at it and report back to you. I can go after 4PM weekdays. Or the weekend if someone is there.

I realize these are all nowhere near ohio... But the adventure of going and getting a bus is pretty awesome..

Really, you would go look at it for me? I can call over there and see if someone is available after 4pm. What day works best?

Grizz,

I have a close friend that lives in Marysville, about 45 minutes away from the Gillig. He's a DAMN GOOD mechanic. He can look over the bus for you if you want to go to California. PM me and let me know if you're interested...

I bought it!! It's a 2001 International. We're very excited to get started on the conversion.
