Central FL checking in

I've always had a thing for a bus. Used to own a '72 VW that I fixed up and drove to PA and back. Now I'm looking at shorter school busses and wanting to do some simple conversions to make them weekend-comfortable. My hobby is BBQ contests and this one I'm watching has a wheelchair lift which would be great for getting my 700lb smoker in and out of the bus. Add a comfortable bed, sofa, fridge, and I'm ready to cruise the southeast and compete on weekends.

Main things I'm looking for are intermediate(?) size, diesel, A/C, reliability. Here's a perfect size bus that I'm talking with the owner about buying:

I hope to pick up lots of tips and info here to help minimize my mistakes. Looking forward to learning! BTW I'm a special ed teacher, maybe that's why the shorter busses appeal to me - lol.

Thanks,

Rub

A bid, warm, central Florida welcome to you!
I'm in downtown Eustis. I keep my bus in Sorrento near Apopka.

Those Freightliners in Vero are going for way too much money, in my opinion.
I've been watching them. They are going for north of 5k. Too close to the salt water too. Bound to be some rust somewhere on those. Just my 2 cents.
For that kind of money you can go to Tampa and buy one from a dealer.

Where you at in Central Fl?

I now live in Eustis, but my bus is in Sorrento near Apopka.
I grew up in Sumter/Lake counties.

That bus/trailer looks familiar... Maybe I saw it heading up to the Big Pig Jig in GA?

We used to hunt Green Swamp when I was a kid. We lived in center hill.
Fl seems like a decent state as far as bus converting goes.

I lived for years in Lakeland and now in Kissimmee.
Got my bus near Pensicola and drove it back home. Been working on it off and on since Dec. Good luck with your project.

I am in Titusville. Retired and been itching to buy a bus, but Tango's project has scared me off of antiques.
