Hey there, this is my first post to the forum, although i've been reading all the super valuable info here for nearly 2 years now.
I actually bought my 1992 Bluebird back then, October 2017. Frame has a few miles on it, but the Cummins 8.3 engine and Allison transmission were rebuilt by a school district about 50k miles ago, so nearly brand new. Got very lucky on tires and obvious diligent upkeep too.
My original plan was to convert the bus while living in my apartment just north of San Francisco for the next year or two. Then circumstances changed, my partner lost her job, and we had to head north to the San Juan islands in Washington beginning of July 2018.
That meant beginning to travel before the conversion was done. Initially, that was like camping in a bus (seats were out, floor was insulated, the rest was a pile of our belongings).
We spent 16 months on the island living in the stationary bus and gradually adding necessities.
Now, I'm back on the road with my Skoolie, have most of the necessities on-board (except running water), but haven't done the framing/sectioning of the conversion yet. The logic: Better to have all of the components first, test them in temporary arrangements, and then build the framing when it's clear how everything is best positioned.
I hope to be more active on the forum from now on, and to find some community!
Cheers,
Randal
