New guy on the block. Four and a half more years until it is full time play time.

Worked as a school bus mechanic for two years before moving into teaching basic intro and electrical for heavy diesel equipment at a local technical college.
Doing my due diligence before grabbing a BB pusher. Right now leaning towards the 8.3 cummins. Worked on C7 Acert money pits while at the barn, so leaving those in the distance.

It sounds like you have a good skill set that will serve you well in your skoolie build.

Definitely avoid the C7. As far as the 8.3 goes.... Perfect choice I may be a little biased

With the 8.3 you will most likely see Allison MT-643 or MD-3060 transmission. Both good transmissions. You will dodge the AT-545 bullet.

Sounds like your on a solid footing for future retirement. Good for you.

I spoke to a diesel instructor at our local Junior College who was a retired bus mechanic. He steered me to the 8.3. Claims he won't go near any bus with a wrench but he will talk about them. haha

I will be retiring in less than 2 years. I have the 444 and the 545 and will soon have all the time I need to go. Figure my daily distance will be 250 miles or less.

PS when I bicycle toured I was proud to do 80 miles in a day.

We seem to end up going 250 miles or less at a clip....usually less than 200, and we stay a few weeks. Sometimes it's kinda nice to settle in for a bit.
