Got a bus (kinda)

I am Star a mom and bus builder hopefully. This is the intro to our bus. It is purple and cream So I think we are going to call her the purple people eater. I will add pictures when I figure out photobucket.

So we went to look at a 91 Thomas bus today. Long story short we decided it was the bus for us. Made a deposit on it the rest due within a month. Scared me we are finally going to jump. It can't come home till I pay it off but it is ours. Clean little to no rust. Only leak was the trany pan gasket loose bolts. All but 3 seats out. 1 broken side window and driver's side of the windshield is cracked. Lucky thing is it is flat glass. Fired on the first try. White smoke that cleared fairly fast.
Stats 91 Thomas 40 ft. Re

Allison tranny don't know which one.

Nice looking bus!

If it is a 1991 I seriously doubt it is a Cat 3126 since that is a mostly electronically controlled engine. I would even doubt it is the 3116 that came before it. Most likely it is a 3208. That engine went into a LOT of buses.

If it is a 3208 and it started right up and didn't smoke very much then you found a bus with a pretty fresh engine. 3208's are known mosquito foggers on start up. For one to start up and have the smoke clear up almost immediately tells me it is pretty fresh.

Since it has luggage compartments I would not be surprised if the rear gearing was 4.10, 4.35, or 4.56. Those were very common gear sets for buses that would see some, if not a lot, of trip work.

By the way, I like the color and the name!

Good luck and happy trails to you!

Thank you. I was not sure I was getting the engine numbers right. Fogger was correct for about 3 to 5 minutes. Then it cleared up. Only 1 conpartment but better then none

Wolf,

Looking at your pictures, I can confirm you do have a 3208 Cat V8. I have one too. LOVE the engine. By the description it's a fresh reman. Change oil regularly, watch the power steering fluid level like a hawk, and she'll run forever. It's a good set-up. Mine runs like a billy goat, slow on the interstate, quick up hills.

Hey Wolfmickell, I figured out that I don't need photocopy to upload pictures. I can take them straight off my library on my phone.

I am not an admin so I can't say from an admin's point of view as to what is going on.

For that matter, if I was an admin I probably still wouldn't know.

I know about buses. Technology, not so much.

Can you by chance tell me which tranny is paired with your 3208?
