Greetings From CT

Good Day,

My wife and I are looking to go full time on the road in a few years. After bouncing around various van options, we happened upon the skoolie option. It intrigues us, but we have doubts. As a mechanical novice, I don't understand the drivetrain and chassis options as well as I (sort of) do for vans. At the moment I am liking a Ford Transit 350 HD. So any advice on whether a skoolie might work is welcome. If I were to get a bus, it would be mid-size, or a shuttle. Here are my questions for now:

General drivability vs a van - we intend to traverse US and Canada, including mountains and I don't understand the engines and transmissions
School bus vs shuttle
Reliability and service availability
Maintenance and cost of ownership
Towing - 3,000# enclosed trailer with motorcycles

Thanks,
Joe

Welcome Joe.

You''ll get it!
The answers are all here, read pickbrains etc.

I'm thinking diesel bus for you, not van.

Enjoy the ride!

We’re in Branford. I hope to be out of teaching in two more years. Then, on the road...

This site is a great resource.
Very helpful and knowledgable people.
My wife and I are also living close by, Bronx, NY (Riverdale).

Here's a good looking bus with absolutely no information. The business is closed today, so I'll have to wait to get info.

Any guesses what this is . . . ?
