Hello From Michigan

So been interested for a while. Mainly on reddit but I figured I'd move to a more active place. Looking to either do a shuttle bus or a at most 8 window school bus. Plan on saving and waiting for one to come on auction in Arizona or any other super dry place of the like so I can avoid the rust problem. Take a train to get it and come back home with it. Would love some bigger tires but know nothing about how that'd effect it. The plan for the inside would be spray foam insulation, setting up a full time living space, and once everything's completed building wise I'd love to save for a complete engine and transmission rebuild to put it like it was at new. Lots I hope to learn from everyone here. Oh and also, the name of the bus would be Navi like from The Legend of Zelda. Bus will most likely be painted the same colors too.

Also if anyone is in the Lansing, MI area and has a completed bus, I'd LOVE to take a look at it in person. Seeing something on YouTube is hella different than in person. Would really help give a sense of living and understanding.

/r/Skoolies is pretty frustrating. Seems mainly a place to post pretty instagram pics. Nothing but crickets when you post a technical question of any kind.

Your plan to travel and avoid the rust is sound.

Welcome aboard,

Sound plan, but don't be afraid to look all over. An engine and tranny combo may come at the cost of some rust, unless time isn't a factor.

Ha, "some rust" is exactly how the ad for my bus worded it.

I find that just like when dealing with the word "Cold" the word "some" is very subjective and its definition is quite different person to person...
