The build thread here is for my 1946 Chevy Shorty. The BBAA was ten years ago. It had a 19" roof raise and minimal interior since I used it to haul antiques around the country. Nothing but a Porta-Potty, a plastic portable sink, a couple of loose chairs and a Coleman cooktop and they gave me an RV ticket.

Here Here!!!! I'm with you - and 12Valves are EASY to work on and beef up if you so choose - I serviced all my drive train - Gaskets, Filters, and Fluids and hit all the lube points underneath from bumper to bumper... makes ya feel good or better at least when you hit the road...

If you are getting a shorty - my opinion about loving my pusher won't much matter - but picked mine up for $5460 out the door~

Got mine for $2K, plus $700 service - $350 in replacing parts, and $600 in fuel to get her here!

Check her thread! LOTS of work in cleaning her out. Found out my one ton p/u has clogged fuel filters.... Hopefully be back later this week to continue the deconstruction.......

Ok so i just got done looking at the 1997 thomas nd it has a couple issues. #1 it has a bad injector. #2some parts were robbed off it when the school sols it i.e. lenses, a gauge or two,wiper arms. #3 threds on bleeder valve for water seperator stripped and sucks air. Thats the bad. The good. All the tires are new brakes are new. Its a 6bt with an allison 5 speed. And its $2,800 obo

Injectors are cheap. Replace all 6, or get them cleaned.

All three of my buses had parts robed.

I wouldn't pay full value for a cannibalized rig.
My bus came fully functional for 2 grand and got me home 800 miles.

Same here! I paid $2K for mine, $700 for getting her in O-T-R condition, and $500 or so for fuel to get her home. Better deals can be had for less, IMO

What I got and like over the Cummins is the international dt466. Better engine in my opinion. Wet sleeve and all. But both are good choices. I opted for rear engine drive train. Amtram are good. Happy bus hunting

I havent thought about a short bus at all untill this weekend when i seen one on CL. I have over looked it a dozen times because i have been looking for one on a med duty chassis. Its a 1989 gmc with a 350 and only 11,000 on the clock. You heard me right only 11k miles under her with maintnance records to proove it. its not what i wanted bet it will be a good proof of concept and i should be able to double my money on it. already titled as an rv and got it for a song at $950

My first bus was a 7 window. Absolutely perfect for 2 adults & 1 child. We even had another couple move in with us for 1 winter from Florida to Texas.

Parking was hardly an issue, most everywhere we went there was always a place to park Gooper (He went thru a good bit of oil). Gas milage was great, I guess, at 25 cents a gallon, we didn't have to think much about it.

We now have a 12 window. There's only 2 of us but the 5 fur babies (2 large German Shorthairs, 1 beagle, & 2 cats) dictated that we have more room as they don't tend to share very well.

We're not on the road yet. As we are not planning on having a toad I often think & feel that we will miss out on quite a few things & places to see due to parking the beast. Our gas mileage will now become important, price wise & size.

I want to take Hubby thru Manhattan as he's never been and everyone needs to go there at least once. I can't imagine driving through there.

Anywho.....enjoy & post lots of pictures. Nothing we love more than critiquing the work being done. Don't worry, most of us won't tell you to your face what a stupid thing you just did. That's why its important to talk about it before you do it. We love to offer up opinions & ideas.

Hi folks, yet another Texan here (near Lufkin). Didn't notice another member with a forum name so close to mine or I would have picked something else. Don't have a bus but I've considered an MCI and only recently thought about skoolies. Don't know a thing about them but I'm hoping to learn, which is why I'm here. Lots of nice info so far. I've owned several RVs but was always dissatisfied with the quality. Want to build my own so I know what's in it and how to fix it. Keep up the good work folks. I'll be lurking.
