Talking Hello, from the frozen wonderland that is Anchorage, Alaska!

Tomorrow I am off to the used auto store to look at a 2002 Thomas 32ft school bus for conversion. They are asking $4,000 at 160,000 miles (Sounds good?). I don't know specifics, but it is driving me crazy passing them 4x a day...From the school system, so likely has decent service (I hope...). They have 4 or 5, and they look pretty clean.
I am looking for something that is drive-able along most roads, and is able to be fairly comfortable, as it hopefully becomes my full time living situation. Rent here is ridiculous, and it is time for some adventure, so why not? I can put as much time as needed in getting it ready so no rush. Will be doing on-road driving and loading up a dirtbike or motorcycle for the fun bits.
If I pull the trigger I will start the postings so you guys can follow my misadventures and foibles. Honestly, I was terribly worried about the practical aspects of this venture... You folks just made my life about 1,000,000 times easier. So......Prepare for the barrage of questions and....

Cheers!

We'll have to meet up when I get ours together, moving back from Texas to Anchorage is our plan, BHS c/o 2010 here. I'm dying to make a trip to Barrow at some point.

IIRC can confirm rent is ridiculous, then again I wasn't paying for it at the time and the military provided a decent housing allowance.

Best of luck with the build!

Good luck ! Cool PA system on that one!

Look at date codes on tires- they are expensive. Take pics of transmission if you cant identify and someone here will know. They might not know exactly what is in the bus, either. look for rust underneath.
