Smile Hello there, newbie Des here!

I’m a 61 yr. old female, who has been inspired by some of the creative minds behind the skoolie community videos.

I’m looking to buy a finished skoolie (of my liking) or start the process from scratch and with a limited time for completion.

By no means, I’m well versed in the mechanics of bus conversions or the industry lingo for that matter. However, certain things have capture my attention such as, raised roof for a loft, solar panels and a veggie conversion -although I don’t know the cons against the conversion.

The skoolie will be my home. I don’t have any family and just my cat and I will be embarking on this journey. The thought of having engine or mechanical issues on the road is petrifying!

I welcome any guidance and or suggestions anyone may have for me... and if you know of any miracle workers, please let it be known, I’m looking for them!

Thank you sooo much!

Dèsirée

others will disagree but my biggest thing to tell people is have RESERVE $$!! dont go out on this journey half broke.. or if you do make sure you have a contigency plan if / when you do break down...

if you have that few grand in an account or available on a cfredit card where you can lodge a hotel room while your bus is in the shop, or pay for that tow bill, etc. you are far better off !

most of all have alot of fun travelling!! RESEARCH first! things like where to park, insurance, fuel, keeping yourself snd your clothes clean, how to keep kitty comfortable when you are away from the bus exploring, etc...

Reserves? Contingency? This is my contingency plan. So I need a contingency plan for my contingency plan! Ohhh dear! I was envisioning, getting day jobs as I head south. I wanted to try as many different things as possible. I was even thinking of getting a second skoolie as a traveling business venture.

A set of tires is around two grand, for perspective. They last a long time but operating a bus is not cheap or easy. It can be for a while but it catches up sooner or later.
None of us are going to try and dissuade you from doing what we are also doing. But don't expect us to sugarcoat things like YouTube and Fakebook do.
Day labor can get you food and fuel money but if you need tires or a repair you may find yourself stuck for a while if you don't have a some reserve funds.
