I知 back!!!!! 2004 C7 or 1998 T444

Okay after you guys set me straight on the first two I looked at (and thank you for doing so) I have two new finds, and would like your opinion. 1st is a 2004 Freightliner with C7 270,000 good shape new tires air breaks $8500. 2nd is 1998 3800 T444 in the same shape $6500. Both have handicap lifts one is in the middle of the 2004 and the other is in the front on the 98. Thanks for all your help and opinions.

Those prices seem awful high regardless of engine/trans combo.

And neither engine is on anyones want list. The C7 was the new Cat motor when the EPA stuff came out, haven't heard good reviews on it. Some have argued the only worse engine than a 5.9 is the 444.

I have to agree, the C7 does not have a very good reputation. IIRC: that was one of CAT's last entries into the road going engine market.

I have to disagree regarding the 5.9 and the T444e. Both are great motors in the appropriate application.

I love my 5.9's but would never have one in a 40' bus. Similar situation with the T444e. It has a great reputation in small to mid sized rigs but under powered in a full size bus.

There's one other thing to consider. One member has a DT466 powered bus and his build was well over 30K pounds ... he wants an even bigger engine because, honestly, at that weight, a 250 HP DT466 is underpowered.

How much build do you plan to have???

Thanks and I guess I should have mentioned the size of rig, which is a mid size I guess as it is 30ft bumper to bumper. These prices are Canadian dollars don’t know if that makes a difference? and is only asking price.

I also thought emissions came in 07 as I own a 5.9 2006 Ram and don’t have all the emissions stuff to deal with.

EGR was found in 2005+ engines, at least in the school bus market.

When someones plan is full time cross country, I'll never recommend either of those engines, unless backed by a 3060, which they seldom are.

Both are overpriced, but I would take the 444 over the C-7. I wouldn't own any commercial diesel built after 2002-2004 or so. The older ones with EGR were enough of a PITA.
