Not sure about on Thomas buses, but they weren't too bad on my Bluebird. I wrestled 'em out alone but it may be easier with 2 people. Edges may be sharp, use proper protection.

answer: no. this portion also holds up a rear door support arm and should not be removed.

Are you talking about the piece that abuts the ceiling (says "THOMAS" and "EMERGENCY EXIT" on it) or the piece that surrounds the square window?

The front and rear caps are just screwed on(at least on my bus), There is nothing to removing them. The only door support is the extention rod that is held on by 2 screws at the top..

i'll double check when i get home. i had the rear cap almost all off until i hit the door support extension rod, hidden from view in these pics, but directly under the "d" in "door" that looked to fix to the rear cap itself. maybe i could just unscrew it from the rear cap. i might just leave that rear cap in there, not sure.

Yeah, I left those caps in place - it doesn't look like there's any rust behind them. I had also originally intended to leave the panels around the square windows in place, but they were actually concealing some pretty horrific rusted bits and had to come out. Are yours still in place or have you removed them?

i had plenty but yours takes perseverance to the next level. just following your thread, i recommend corroseal. here's how my exterior paint job ended up
now on to more interior work. ceilings and walls come next, followed by floor and furniture.

Took awhile to upload the pics. Removing them was easy as it is just screws on my bus, but there were a lot of screws. Remove 2 screws that hold the door extension arm and it come right down. Let me tell you it makes accessing wires in there a breeze. The only negative I see to removing mine is I have to find a neighbor to hold it up while I get screws started, it's large, and awkward.
