I think most of it is the numbers.

There are fifty 6BT's to every one 4BT on the market.

The 4BT can make almost the same power as the 6BT with less weight and less room.

Roger that. The 5.9 (6BT) comes from the factory rated from about 160 - 215 HP @ 2,500 rpm. With some very conservative mods, the 4BT can produce 250 ponies all day long from a smaller, lighter package.

Granted...the 6 is a MUCH smoother running engine due to its' more equalized balance (the 4's are known as "Paintshakers" for good reason)...but still, it is one of the most reliable engines ever built.

Funny thing is...it was actually Case who originally spec'd that series and then worked with Cummins to develop it.

Some of the older Cummins castings have a international stamp on the casting.
