New bus purchase... tomorrow
Greetings and thanks for having me! Buying a 1991 international school bus tomorrow and need help with some ID and tech info. Its a dt466 engine and 5 speed manual transmission, but i have no idea what the trans is, so i cannot search for the shifter bushing itl need. It also has 5 lug Dayton style wheels and disc brakes, wanting to swap to 10 lug if possible. Please helpppp!!!

Thanks man! Trying something a little different, well i beleive its different. Plant to remove entire body and feont end, building a cab over that strongly resembles a HEMTT with 24.5 steelies and a western hauler type bed. Let me know what ya thing. Sorry for the upside-down pic. First one is of the actual bus, second is the plan

I keep discovering new computer Stuff that everyone else on the planet consider mothers-milk basics.
But wasn't that image in a program that can easily flip it?
Anyhoo... Welcome!
Dayton wheels are bad news. Are you buying this beast dirt-cheap?
Of course, a 466 with stick....
Why do you believe the transmission needs some sort of bushing?

I was thinking of a 10 lug hub swap, or to fill and drill 24.5 steelies for the 5 lug pattern. Kindof excited, still researching; its a dt466c, supposed to be better in many ways than the 2 previos gens. The shifter is sloppy. Shifts firmly into gear, but i can tap the shifter on the side and itd swing 3 inches to the other side... i dont have much experience (or any really) on heavy duty applications, but i know that my mustang, jeep, and pickup all shifted nice and firm, with no wobble, after replacing the nylon bushing(s)

In order to swap Dayton spoke wheels for 10-hole Budd wheels you are going to have to swap wheel ends at the minimum and more than likely complete axle assemblies.
There is no way you can get a 10-hole Budd wheel reconfigured to attach to a set of spokes. Not only are the studs on the spokes not stout enough to directly attach wheels directly to the spokes but the weight of the bus would be riding on just those studs and not on the spokes themselves.

Been down this road- can go smooth...or not. Verify before you pay- in person.
I bought a MG TD for $300 from a guy I worked with in Palm Springs- he lost the title... I had that sucker stripped and the frame being blasted.
Got a knock on the door a year later- was Police- turns-out car was a Palm Springs Municipal Court Judge's car he was having my buddy restore.
Police: "You have a MG TD in the garage?"
Me: "No, most of one..."
They came with a flatbed and loaded-off all the tin/motor/trans and few boxes of bits. Didn't get in any trouble, but was out $300.
Good luck! have fun.

Insurance after conversion. I knew a guy that built his own tow truck and never got insurance on it. Looks cool.

elliot - dayton wheels are NOT bad news.. split rims are bad news.. thgat bus is daytons but not split rims... plewnty of daytons still out there that work just fine and are not time bombs.. no reason to change them out... they are tubeless tires like any other bus.. my DEV bus has daytons and runs standard 11R22.5 truck tires.. no tubes, no splits, no issues..

Daytons or budds... Either will do. I like Daytons but like the look of the budds.

Ok, got insurance on the hook with progressive, 115 to start and 56.32 monthly for 9 additional payments (but it is year long policy). Yalls replies have been nothing but wonderful. I still need tech info for swap, im just not sure if the daytons fit my look im tryin to achieve. I know its minuscule, but still.. anyone know if earlier or later hubs (outside of the brakes) will swap? Got a line on an earlier bus for parts with 10 lug drums, 3 years difference. Hoping itl work

Ok, now i need yet more help. What sells on buses, aside from scrap metal, motor, trans, and the rolling chassis? Got it on insutance with a temp tag! Go through your local insurance company, go in there and get insurance. Much easier than calling main sources! Thanks to all in advance

depending on the bus, the engine computers, tires if they are good, Gauige clusters if they are good, air-conditioning parts.. windsheilds if they are not cracked and esp if they are curved.. rear end and gears, air brake compressors, alternator, asll things that to me would sell if you are parting out a bus.
