new skoolie in CA?

We hope to become official bus or ambulance owners in the coming months. For now, it's the fun of research before the fun and hard work begins.

My three kids and I hope to convert a short bus/microbus/ambulance into a very simple sleeping camper. Just bunk beds, belted seats and a basic kitchen (maybe outside). No bath for us.

Nationwide Insurance has already said no to insuring our future vehicle so I will search the forum for other insurers.

Looking forward to being here!

I've been interested in ambulance conversions too.
For a weekend camper, it could be pretty cool. Ambulances are usually pretty well beat on by the time they're sold, though not always.
Welcome to the forum.

The ambulance is interesting because of all the built in storage and solid contruction. But it might be tough to me to fit us all into given all the built-in. The open floor plan of a gutted bus might work better.

Too many people have likely died in them or suffered too much in one for me to even think about it. That and you know those things were driven HARD. Why not an old diesel box truck?

When I was calling around for insurance the only company that would insure me specifically said they WOULD NOT insure a conversion done on a van chassis

Where in Cali are you? I'm in Vacaville

I think an exorcism would be in order if I went with an ambo. School buses will just have ghosts of bullying and car sickness.
