New Skoolie owner in Alberta

Hey guys,

I've been researching and dreaming of buying a school bus for the last 6 months so I can live full time in it. Today I finally got my self a 2000 International DT466E Auto. Pretty stoked and ready to tackle the conversion.
Worked out perfectly that the guy I purchased it from owned a storage yard and said I could keep it there to work on it

Congrats on your purchase. Good to see other people get hooked on buses.

I'm curious to know why so many Canadians come to the US to buy a bus? I know you bought yours locally, but most of the time folks come down south to buy a bus. I know you guys have buses up there too.

My bus is from Canada. But my second one will be from the Southern USA. The busses get very rusty up here. Secondly, I think most things just cost less in the US even with the dollar exchange.

That makes perfect sense with the harsh northern winters. Thanks for responding.

Down south is fine for buses, but Oregon and Washington buses seem to be in very solid condition too, unless you buy a bus from the coast. On those the rust and corrosion would be obvious.

Thanks guys. I'm in SW Calgary.
I'm wondering how you guys that are in Alberta got your insurance and who through? I want to insure it as a private bus so I can drive to and from the storage yard and my workshop at work. Not sure how to go about it..
It is currently registered as a private use bus

Howdy

I am in the process of trying to find a Skoolie myself. I'm in Austin, but am based in New Orleans. I'm a full-time house and pet sitter, and as it so happens, I'll be in Alberta (for the first time) in a few months!

I have a sit in Cluny.

I'm so excited about the possibility of getting a bus.

Super excited about your new purchase.

Congratulations.

It's usually easiest to go to an independent insurance agent and let them do the policy hunting for you.

Update:
Found an acreage where I can work on the bus.
It wasn't my ideal situation but works good enough. Ideally I wanted to store the bus at a storage yard and drive to and from the workshop at my work on weekends but since I can't get anyone to insure the bus until its an RV I'm stuck off the road for now.

Starting tear out soon!

A lot of people cross that line with a mockup of the basic requirements. You don't have to have the basics built into cabinetry.

Ok so after phoning just about every broker in town I have figured out how to insure my bus while I convert it so I can drive to and from my work to work on the bus.
If anyone in Alberta is having troubles getting there bus insured before its converted send me a message
