It's absolutely possible to convert during the winter, if that's your concern. The sun, due to greenhouse effect, warmed our bus by about 25 degrees above the outside air temp. We had some assist from our woodstove and our Mr. Heater propane heater.

We had mixed results as far as purchasing items in advance. We bought some cabinet hardware we thought we could use, and it ended up not working for us. We also bought an RV bathtub that we thought would be perfect for out build...but ended up being just a little too big....and we had to sell on Craigslist (surprisingly we were able to sell it at all). There were a few other things that we purchased in advance but ended up not using. Our compositing toilet was one exception.

My advice is to buy things as you build. Our floor plan changed as our build progressed. Not drastically, but enough that it would screw things up if we had bought everything in advance. The realities of the physical space of the bus sort of made us adjust on the fly. It was a mixed blessing too, as it was very fun and very rewarding to discover what our bus had been planning for us!

Keep test strips and make sure the additive and ph are perfect.
My 2004's coolant ate the metal away at the block/timing cover junction. $9300 was the quote from the navistar shop.

About those test strips, are those like a universal test strip or are they engine-specific or what? That's something on my long list of things to do.

I got a couple strips from a truck mechanic. My engine (466E) was just on the borderline of needing some additive, so I changed the coolant filter which contains the additive within it. They make filters with and without SCA so you can change or not change the SCA as needed. My filter was so thin and crispy it crushed like well done bacon when I removed it and caused a small flood, so be prepared.
