Smile Newbie!

Hi,

I've wanted to convert a bus for 27 years, and now I can. I'm very excited. My goal is to buy a mid-sized school bus, and convert it into a mobile mother-in-law apartment using mostly repurposed materials. It's going to be a wonderful learning experience. I'm actively looking for my dream bus, sketching interior designs, gathering ideas and resources, and looking forward to the journey of a lifetime.

I'm so glad I found this forum. It's a data mine containing a vast wealth of information. Thank you to all the good folks who have contributed to it. I look forward to meeting y'all and learning as much as I can from you as I work through my conversion.

Welcome to the madness.

I am sure you are developing your own opinion on what will work the best for you.

Regardless of bus body, engine maker, or transmission the number one thing to avoid is any sort of rust.

Since you live in MA you know very well what sort of issues rust can present.

What you don't probably know is what people around the country consider bad rust.

For my in-laws in MI, as long as you can't see daylight through a panel and nothing has fallen off it isn't considered bad rust.

For those of us on the left coast, bad rust is where someone scraped the paint a couple of years ago and there is an ugly rust streak on the side of the body.

Good luck and happy trails!
