I think I mean to say 60 seats Thanks for pointing it out. I know it was a long bus with lifter in the back.

Cost of bus out of state, airfare cost, fuel cost, then have to service your bus when get it home.
They don't service the rusty floors common on buses from NC. Most of the buses at auctions are recently decommissioned and have been serviced.
I'd rather be $500 more into a bus and not have to deal with making major rust repairs before I can start my build.

40' is about as big as you can get for a school bus.

Not rusty where my father works. We hardly get any snow so we rarely see salt on the road and we are not at the beach. Lenoir County here. Depend on where you are shopping. We have 100 counties and not all counties are at the beach where it is salty or in the mountains where they may see more salt during the winter.

My father works at bus garage he looked at buses for me. His co worker too (one used to be my neighbor). I looked at 70 buses in NC last year.. good buses goes at $6,000 (more than I want to spent).

I’ll bow out. Good afternoon

Check out my build thread, I have a NC bus with zero rust. It's what sold me on it and how I wound up with a vista. Might not be the best chassis design and has low top speed, but as far as rust goes not a bit under the floor, on the bottom, the most rust was on the air compressor.

I don't recall many from downstate NC having any rust, some towards the mountains started getting some (Hendersonville and the area).

People talk a lot about buying busses for bargains on here. And it’s true that is is easy to pay too much if you are in a hurry, but almost any change you make to a bus will cost more than if you payed a few bucks more for a bus that was already set up that way. Transmissions can be swapped, rear end gearing can be changed, roofs can be raised. But each one of those projects will likely cost as much as a whole bus. It’s worth even a couple thousand dollars extra to buy it with the options you want vs adding them later IMO.

true to a point - a good motor, an acceptable transmission, the proper size, and the less rust the better would be first on my list - highway gearing would be nice - I doubt there is a bus built that will have the rest of the things I need unless I come across a skoolie that just happens to be converted to my toy hauler/camper needs

1998 International 3600, Dt466E, AT545, 140k, maintenance records, $4k

1990 Bluebird TC/2000 FE, cummins 5.9, AT545, 80k miles, rebuilt transmission, 30' bumper to bumper, $4k (delivered)

2001 GMC 3500 cutaway, 6.5lT (I know...I know), 4L80, 90k miles $5.5k

2004 Thomas, C7, Allison 2000, FE flatnose, 9000hrs, odo shows 40k, $5k

Thanks to everyone, looks like a great forum here.
What part of NC are you in?

Looking at two buses this week, one is a 1990 GMC, 7 window with a gas 366.

The other is a 1984 International 5 window with a gas (345 I think).

These aren't my first choices, but this isn't my forever bus, this is a temporary bus while we get familiar with the setup.

Opinions on these buses, and what they might be worth?
