Newbie: Searching for a space to park/work on skoolie

My husband and I have done a lot of research about building our own skoolie and are very eager to start on this project asap. However, we are holding back because we don't know where we can store and work on the minibus. We currently live in an apartment complex in San Jose, CA and we don't really have any land or storage space that we could use. We know almost all the RV storage places in the area don't allow you to do any major construction on vehicles.

Any members out here who live in the San Francisco Southbay area or nearby cities who have leads or ideas on where we can find a lot/ large garage, warehouse space or any suitable spot that we can rent? Any help is appreciated.

Ty!

Same here in south KC area. If one is fortunate to find a space that is reasonably priced and tall enough, may not be allowed to work on it there.

Near 4 year old post with no follow up, so unlikely he/she ever did???

Finding space to convert is still a major issue today, especially for those inner city dwellers looking to get into the hobby...

Post Boston build

I’ve been using a permitted parking area near a State park. I use a small work bench and a generator that live in the bus. It’s not easy looking over your shoulder for park employees, or nearby residents who notice that the bus stays put for days at a time. Ideally, a paid parking space in a commercial lot would be great, but they tend to be found in the suburbs, not in town. I’ve read about boat yards who may have extra space. Paying rent for an industrial workspace with parking, and sharing or subletting it might work as well, but you would then get into leases and so on.
