I'd say get the land/barn, finish out part of the barn as your residence, keeping some of it partially finished like an attached garage to park the bus in. Then you could get the barn/liability covered as well as the RV covered (both literally and with insurance).

Would something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Dickinson-Mar.../dp/B007PS3GGU qualify as a "wood stove" for the purposes of killing RV insurance? It's technically a "solid fuel heater".

Love the idea of having some land for the Skoolie! We're starting our build over in Camarillo early next year and will be looking for somewhere out of the way and safe to park our bus, a bit of farmland that somebody doesn't mind us parking on would be ideal but eh, needle in a haystack eh!
Let us know how it goes

I'm down in Fredericksburg and looking to jump into the skoolie game myself. Glad to hear of others in the DC(ish) area doing the same.
Garrett.

Are the diesel air heaters generally okayed for RVs? Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Happybuy-Moto.../dp/B07L86FQ5S

My insurance company has no issue with my Webasto coolant heater.
Best thing to do is ask your insurance agent.

Not a coolant heater, it's a diesel air heater.

I understand.
That is why I pointed out what I am using. Both are diesel fired heaters. One heats liquid for radiant heat and pre-heating the engine. The other heats air.
My insurance company is tolerant of diesel fueled heating appliances but not OK with wood burning appliances.

The woodstove is not okay, the other one would be acceptable.
