to repair it youself you buy 3rd party injectors and put them in yourself.. done.. they are not super hard to install... once updated the VT-365 is pretty reliable and decently powered for a sort bus like an IC CE-200 or an IC-BE series.. I wouldnt want it in a full size CE though.... even with an allison 2000 esp if running A/C or adding a lot of weight to the bus in a conversion...

Bus mechanics can't keep them running. I know I couldn't.

once you replace the injectors and perform the updates they are pretty decent.. the big issue is that some districts bought so many of them that they have a tough time keeping up with which ones have ad updates and whic havent..

then the failures if one does dump fuel into the oil it ruins bearings so then it is a mnajor repair / life-shortener.. buying one used you have no idea what its history is..

opil changes were also key on those.. letting the oil go too long at all was bad news for the common rail system.. so fleet managers trying to penny pinch when levis dont pass ended up in trouble...

unfortunately the MaxxForce7 wasnt much better whuic was supposed to be the later improved Diesel V-8...

the DT-466E wasnt bad again if the oil was kept changed.. all of these newer E engines required very clean oil and maintenance upkeep always current... mechanical diesels you could use and abuse and as long as they didnt over-heat would still last.. i think school fleet managers got a wakeup call when E-variants came out...

the CUmmins electronics arent too bad.. the ISB is a nice engine.. but still have to keep up on maintenance... All of the allison transmissions could pretty much be run hard and put away wet.... again as long as they werent over-heated...
