I have a Ruth and a Rhonda in the family that you remind me of.
I checked that auction and all I got back was about 190 toy buses. Am I doing this right?

Bus #83 is still only $1,475, but it has a blistering 91k on it. Slightly less appealing than the 20k mile trucks.

Honest, this one was only driven to church by an old lady on Sundays.

The interior doesn't seem to show signs of wear in that one. Then some mechanic got into the bus with his muddy shoes.
Are you still in on any of the other shorties in that group? r

Not at the moment just that one. I've bid on three of them and I'm watching.

I looked at the Dallas auction and it looks like they have a lot of short buses going to auction. I couldn't find bidding online yesterday, so i am going to contact the company to see about that. I also couldn't find where they show the details of each individual bus.
I think based on the overall opinion of the replies, I will stay away from the 6.0L engine. Thanks everyone for chiming in.
Robin, not sure what happened with the link, sorry.

Have you had any problems with ground clearance?
I have been looking at transits also. I think a transit would work equally as well as a school bus for us.
Are there any engines that are preferable in the transits?
Heres one I found that I think would be a good fit for my family:

Rhonda, the 6.0 in the Tenn. busses is a gas, not diesel. HUGE difference. The gas engine is as solid as they get. IMO

T444 engine is same as 94.5-2002 7.3 power stroke only and not the same as the early 7.3 turbo/non turbo just to be clear. I would say the best engines to have would be... t444/7.3 power stroke,7.3 Ford idi,5. 9 cummins(anything cummins) international dt466/360,or cummins4bt if yr looking at breadtrucks

Ok Rhonda Ruth, here's my new possible bus choice. It's a couple states further away than TN, but states on that side of the country are tiny. It's a diesel. The price seems to be staying fairly low so I'm suspecting there's a good reason why.

What's wrong with this bus?

Hey Robin,
I have been looking at the transits as well. The bus you shared is longer than I have been looking at, but that mostly because I am nervous about driving something really long.
Hey everyone, here is a shorty I found in Las Vegas. Low miles, 7.3 diesel, appears to be minimal rust if any. Thoughts?

I was guessing that about the time you get situated in the small bus you'd start wishing you had a little more space. Besides, the 5500 is a heavier truck frame. Almost like a real bus.

That e350 in Vegas looks like a bad deal to me. The price is about double what I would consider, and it needs a thousand dollars of air conditioner work. I paid similar money for my bus, and I got a full frame short bus with the turbo and dual working air etc.

I knew they were nice buses. But did you see how much the one in particular went for?

It's one thing to pay that much to a dealer. It's another thing all together to pay that much at a bus auction.
In my experience with auctions, a lot that sells for that much at auction is often defaulted on by the buyer who eventually realized they paid way to much. Most often the buyer claims that his/her children were using the computer to bid on the lot. The lot is usually relisted in the next sale.
