Thanks so much for taking a lil peek into my first post....first step towards making my pintrest dream a reality!!!

Ok so like I'm super excited.... and I've stalked the pin boards enough to know that I would LOVE a gillig (in my dreams) BUUUT I'll happily settle for pretty much any used 40'-45' used 14 row bus.

Running though....it must be running

So I have minimal skills to build this thing but totally want to and I'd love to find someone who wouldn't mind sorta teaching me how to fix my skoolie myself!

You're in the right place. Every body here is willing to help you find the right bus for you and help you learn to fix it. It doesn't happen overnight but I've seen a number of people begin just like you are. It's good you're not appearing with a broken down bus you want to make run again. We hate to see people waste money on builds. Nobody tells you how to do your build, but we'll present you with ideas and options you probably wouldn't think of.

You've got a lot of reading to do here. Find a build you like and start reading to see how they did it. Ask questions anytime. It's good to expect an answer in a couple days rather than immediately. You'll have fun.

The basics that get people started are knowing what kind of bus you're interested in. Unless you're buying a coach you'll probably only be able to get a 40' bus. That leads us to the second question. What kind of budget are you working with? What's your timeline for being finished?

You want a powerful 40' bus, not unlike a lot of other people. Do you have a place to park it? Do you have tools to work on it with?

It certainly sounds like you have enthusiasm.

It's an interesting process. I'm 18 months into my bus build and looking forward to some trips to the hot springs as soon as the weather gets a little more comfortable.

The MAIN thing I need is a builder in the area but I'm willing to piece it....

Have you ever raised a roof? I'm trying to see what a 13' ceiling looks like both interior and exterior.

Ive not personally raised a roof, though I was incvolved in helping as one was raised..

13 feet is zealous indeed.. remember it is a vehicle and still has to pass under freeway bridges, overpasses, tree branches, low hanging wires, etc...

and you also dont want it to be top-heavy.. many people here seem to choose anywhere from 10-24 inches raise above factory height.

I am a single mom as well and started my search for a conversion vehicle about 8 weeks ago. I settled on a shorty bus and have been searching since.

I post the links to the actual buses I find on my thread and I get a lot of feedback as to wether its worth looking at further or not.

Also, The more details you can give upfront, the better the response you will get.
