Streamlined bus

S.O. And I have been looking for a bus for a while and spotted this a few weeks ago. Anyone out there on the forum know who the coach maker is? Guy at the bus company told us its from IHC but I'm having trouble tracking it down.

IH built the cab and chassis, and most likely the engine as well. Another company built everything behind the doors and above the frame (I am not sure which company, however). If you get to check it out, there should be a plate/sticker somewhere indicating the builder.

That thing looks new enough to have a ton of emmissions equipment and computers.

According to the guy at the bus co. It's an 2007 model year. I think with a 466 or 444 if memory serves. Should all the computerized stuff be avoided?

Manufacturers went to computer controlled engines at different times but most any engine built after 1999 is computer controlled.

Some years later (2005-2007) we started seeing additional emissions gear added. EGR, DPF etc.

All mechanical engines are the simplest.

Computer controlled are what most of us drive and are more complicated but entirely serviceable.

It is the added emissions gear that is most problematic.

its a MaxxForce label on the side.. all Maxxforce engines had the updated emissions packages

Ok so I'm moving on past this bus and am now looking at a 2002 Thomas 30' bus. We were hoping for a 6 window bus so this is a bit larger than we wanted but the price (3500) and mileage (138k) make it very appealing. Owner doesn't seem to know what engine and transmission is in the bus but my guess is the engine is a Cummins —which is exactly what I was looking for. No idea what the trans is though. Likely an Allison 545? What are your thoughts on this buy? Good? Bad? Indifferent?

VIN decoder shows 3126 Cat engine, 78" headroom "cab". Air brakes. No idea the transmission. Photos show rear tires looking a bit worn.

What part of the country you from? There's a "dealer" near me who is looking to move the last of his inventory because he's got about 100 buses coming in soon; he needs to make room for 'em. Some may need a little work but he's willing to wheel-and-deal. Late 90's/early 2000's IH buses for $1000-1500. He's close to Atlanta. I need to get down to him and see what he's got (I don't need another bus but I do want to re-gear mine and he may have parts I can use).

I'm located in south east Idaho and the bus is in eastern Washington. Would like to find something within a days drive if at all possible. Since it has a cat engine I might just have to take. Hard pass.[emoji853] the search continues...

He has MD3060 trans, which is one of the best. 5 speed stock with a 6-th available through software upgrade.

I have same motor/trans. Nice package.

I'm just over in Twin Falls. Been looking for the right bus for a while and if it checks out this one is pretty close. Thoughts on the price?

Curious, did you unlock 6th gear and if so did it allow you to drive at/near freeway speeds and does it help with the fuel mileage?

Been a while since I posted here but I’ve distracted by the nice summer weather and too many other fun things going on. Time to get back to finding a bus. Ran across this one not far from me. Any thoughts on it? Hoping if all goes well we can go get it this weekend.

I’ve negotiated a lower price but still wondering if I should pull the trigger due to the frame issues. Makes me wonder how something like that happens..

thats why I wouldnt touch a broken frame.. what caused it? was the bus crashed and rebuilt then the crack discovered? if it was a defect.. wonder about the rest of that frame.. a lower price to me would be thats a $1000 bus because thats what a scrapper would give you if you coukdnt repair it..
