What makes you think it is an 8.3L? The VIN says it is a 5.9L, but to tell the truth I don't know enough to know the difference.

In the picture it says 24 valve. That's the 8.3. Now see how the valve cover is notched one side and flat on the other? The flat side indicates electronic. Most everything is after 1998
Rameses taught me that.

Very cool. I'm in Cuyahoga Falls/Akron area. I have a 1997 shuttle bus I use to haul my trailer with atv's. Hope to see you around.

Looks like a good score, that holds tons of family fun in the near future.
I must say,
that after you mentioned that it was slightly underpowered, I was glad that it was a 5.9. Couldn't imagine a 8.3 being underpowered. lol

Transmission

How do I find out what transmission is on this bus? Is there a plate somewhere or just crawl under there and look?

Allisons will have a data plate on one side or the other with trans info. May be covered in grime or could be missing but usually there. Looks like this...
