Western New York noob

Hello all! I'm new to the skoolie world, but I'm excited to be joining it.

A few weeks ago my wife turned to me and said "we should buy a school bus and make it into a camper." Which was a shock to me, because I'm usually the one with the crazy schemes, and she's usually the bankroll. So here we have a unique combination of crazy scheme and bankroll.

That's where I'm at. Haven't bought a bus yet, but I'm actively looking. We're thinking a 35-40 pax would do (five windows per side).

I'm looking forward to learning a lot!

Welcome !

Lucky you !

Write down your requirements- number of people- current and future, pets, demands (big shower, etc). Are you tall people? Diesel or gas? Towing? Mountains? Weekends or Fulltime?

Read and learn from others mistakes. Go out and drive a few- start with dealers. Ask ?'s on the Board here.

It's just the two of us, both under 6'. We're looking to have a queen-size bed, some dressers/drawers, and at least a single stall shower. I'd like the rig to be mostly self contained, but I imagine RV hookups are going to be necessary (especially for the shower), and I'd like the versatility.

We're planning weekend-length excursions and the occasional two week trip (drive and park for two weeks, with RV hookups and other facilities).

Diesel seems to make sense, I might even try to explore the used fryer grease thing (if that's even realistic in this application). I doubt we'll need to tow, and while it isn't totally flat there aren't a lot of mountains where we're located.

Thing is we're totally ignorant to all things RV. We know people who have them, but we've never even as much as rented one. So I'm starting from scratch here.

The more things you want in the bus, the bigger you need to go. I've got a short bus, that means no shower, no sink, no water tanks.. But we have basically everything up to that point. When we get back home at the end of the year it'll be time to start on version 2.0 which may add those and remove or alter some things we did put in.

My 6 window was only rated for 14 passengers.
5-7 window buses on fullsize chassis are my favorite!
