It's a great website and I've drawn a lot of inspiration from it!
It's Jake, actually!

'89 was the last year for the 10.4L CAT 3208, it's a dirty motor and the EPA made them phase it out for school busses.

I've seen MVPs advertised with CAT 3208, 5.9L Cummins, and 8.3L Cummins. For 2K, I'd guess that the 8.2L DT is probably correct, I'd expect the 8.3L Cummins to go for more.

I bought mine from City of Harrisonburg Va via the web auction. They listed the bus as having a brake problem....I called the contact number and they said the air chamber mounting bracket had broken, and they welded it back together so they could move the bus. They assured me that there was nothing else wrong with the bus, and the only reason they were selling it because it had become over 15 years old (apparently the don't or can't use buses past a certain age)....

I work for a truck dealer and can get the bracket at cost, so I went ahead and bid/bought it... I drove it back to Va Beach area (5 hours down the interstate) and the brake bracket held up fine. BTW...this bus was orgininally bought from Sonny Merriman in Lynchburg, and that is where City of Harrisonburg bought the parts for it....

Long story short, the big brake problem that scared most bidders away turned into a big nothing, cost me $79 for a new bracket....

You just might be a Redneck if...
...your motor home used to be a school bus!
...Your living room has a steering wheel!
...Your home has brake lights
