25' bus in a 20' RV site?

Hi everyone,

This may be a dumb question, but hear me out. Most of my campground experience involves tents, not trailers or skoolies!

I'm looking at campgrounds/dates for summer travels in our bus, and a lot of NY state parks have "20-foot back-in" sites available. Obviously this means you can show up with a 20-foot RV. I also assume it's OK to show up with a 20-foot trailer hitched to a pickup truck, which would make the total equipment length a lot longer!

So if you show up in a 25' short bus like mine, do most state campgrounds, in your experience, let you park in a 20' site? Or do you have to get a 30' site?

Thanks!

I've heard mixed results: some camp grounds won't allow converted buses in the gate, others will. In my experience in NY, it kind of depends on who is at the gate and which park you're at.

Best to call the campground(s) and ask. I prefer to call and make reservations. This way if someone at the gate says you can not be here then I say I have reservations it smooths the way. Be honest when making the reservations though.

When I was on the road in a 40' bus I stayed at a number of places that had 32'-35' spaces and we managed to fit. However, we did get turned away at a couple of places over six years.

I did find that I really enjoyed boondocking more than staying in RV parks.
