a fixer up er

here is a fixer uppppper
looks like that front damage should buff out with a little rubbing compound.

Description
I have for sale this 2002 international bus.It has front end damage but does run and drive.Looking to sell as is.Local bus barn maintained this bus regularlly.

Actually I do not know what they want for this, but if someone needed to get some parts?

I would totally buy that bus if the damage doesn't actually extend into the engine compartment. I contacted the guy asking for some details but haven't gotten a response.

I have a mechanic friend who lives in that area if you get to the point of needing someone to swing by and hear the engine run or what not.
I could give him a call see if he is available.
he may charge you a little for gas

Here's what the seller said, what do you folks think?

The mileage isn't high and the story is totally believable but the salvage title throws me off. I once went through all kinds of gyrations trying to clear one here in CT for a simple utility trailer and finally gave up, it was such a pain...

As much trouble as registering and insuring a bus can be, I'd imagine the salvage title would add to that significantly.

In CT the regs say you can't even drive a salvage vehicle. You have to flatbed it. Not kidding, not even a normal tow - "all four wheels off the ground". I can't even imagine flat-bedding a school bus.

Guess this isn't the one for me.

Don't waste your time. You can get a non-wrecked bus for not much more. You will be into that repair for thousands unless you use bubblegum and duct tape. The seller is looking for someone that needs the drivetrain. That's the only way to justify the price.

Wow, here in Ohio people make a good living by purchasing out of state wrecks repairing them and reselling with a salvage title. I always wondered why they went out of state to buy them.

That might work in Canada but it is a felony in the US. When you have some backwoods PoPo crawling up your ass, why give them more ammo?

CT is hardly back-woods, too. They share data with the DMVs of all the other states, they have historical databases on all the VINs, etc. I had a trailer inspected and they knew exactly where the multiple VINs were and checked them out to see if they matched. Plus I'd have to FIND and BUY an identical rust bucket to swap with because the VINs tell them the make and model.

I think I'll pass on the felony.

Happens here with buses too. This company alone has over 40, 84 passenger flat noses. So sometimes at mid life one bus might get a bad fender bender. Many times the worst is the parking lot rash, but sometimes its like the one with the parking brake failure. Entire front end smashed. Another bus with a rusted out rear clip, So two buses get made into one.

Other factors like buses that only do dirt roads here will be wore out at half the service life of a bus that only did paved surfaces. It would still have a clean vin. So the bus with the front end damage could adopt the clean vin once repaired.

This is why I love rat rods. What vin would you like? Cabs are sometimes home made. Engine has a number, same with diff's transmission, ect.

However none of the under hood parts are required to be left original here in Alberta Canada. So again, what number would they want?

I love the few, unenforced loopholes left in the law system. But we are loosing more and more of them each day.
