We have no air conditioning or steam.... so it's a "dry heat".....
Sometimes the radar shows rain (like tonight) but it often evaporates before it hits the ground. I call that torture. And it smells stinky-funny... like hot electrical wire. I'm told that it's the smell of "Ozone".

Hi, I'm considering a sauna/shower in my build. Found this thread through a search, but the first page is missing. Has someone already done this? Any input is appreciated.

Here in Canada, people wish for weather like you get in the states. Right now it's about 0 degrees Celsius outside and will be that cold or colder for most of the next 6 months. Besides the comfort and awesomeness of having a built in sauna, I think it would use less water for my bathing purposes, which would mean less water in my grey tank.

there was a military guy who got out, and built RV using boatbuilding skills and they traveled europe, it had a Japanese type soaker tub, that actually heated and filtered water
It was built on a freightliner/IH or something american chassis, the entire roof was solar panels

Half the bus conversions here in Finland have a sauna. It's really just like building a tiny residential sauna, but make sure you provide sufficient ventilation to dry it out or the humidity will rot your bus. A roof hatch would be ideal. Finding a small enough sauna stove might be a challenge.

Here's a link to some pics of a nice sauna bus and other saunas for inspiration:
Erilaisia saunoja ennen ja nyt | Kuvagalleriat | Kaleva.fi
Pics 42 to 44 are of the bus. Pics 47, 48, 50, 52 have ice or snow saunas. Also don't miss the selection of tent, boat and trailer saunas.
Some choose to circumvent the heat and humidity problems with a bus sauna by towing a sauna trailer, personally I'd love a sauna harvester toad like this:

Most of my mental work on trying to do it has centred around the enclosure and venting. Besides that have been considering different options for the heat. From traditional firebox to propane, Ac powered steam generators, or maybe near infra red lights. Thus far the latter two options seem more viable with steam in the lead, though there's a long way to go yet, and more research to be done. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Kutter, thanks for the link, while most of the pictures are of larger or temporary structure, #16 shows a small space with a tiny heat source, so now I have a sense of scale. Thank you.

Picky picky CC. We know if Kutter says there is a bus conversion in Finland with a sauna then the other one doesn't have one. Just kidding Kutter.

The scene I'm seeing in pick #16 is a heat source with a surface area of about 12" maybe 16" by roughly 6". Small but effective.

Pic 16 shows a small apartment sauna with an electric heater in the 2 - 4 kW range. Electric sauna heaters are compact and simple to install, but also harsh and lack character. A infrared solution might be better if you were to go with electric, although infrared heaters won't give the traditional sauna experience they save you the steam problem. Other eccentric alternatives include diesel or propane heaters, but you might have to build those yourself.
Electric is of course only truly an option if you normally have shore power. You could partially hide a diesel or propane heater under the bus to save space and just leave the vital pile of rocks inside. The bigger the pile, the better the sauna.

In my opinion, you can't beat wood heat in a sauna. I wouldn't even consider anything else.

Infrared lights and electric sauna heater combo
Hey there. I’m looking at building a sauna in the same room as my bathtub in my bus. I’m thinking about doing infrared lights as well as an electric sauna heater. Thoughts ? Anyone know of compact electric sauna heaters ?
