Hello all.

Needing a little advice on choosing a bus.

What i'm looking for....

1. Needs to be able to pull a wrangler.
2. Needs to be able to climb the mountains.
3. Ceiling needs to be a minimum 6'4". (Roof raise a possible)
4. Diesel
5. Flat noise
6. Able to support a roof rack for relaxing
7. Front support for a motorcycle carrier

Get a nice bus from a mountainous district out west or even up in the Appalachians. Raise the roof and enjoy.

Get one with gearing capable of highway cruising for sure.

id definitely say get a western bus... seems like they run a lot of nice powerful RE's in salt lake city.. not sure how they fair as far as rust.. but every route involves quite a bit of up and down hill so you'd likely be able to get something powerful and maybe even including a retarder..

Besides climbing mountains...you need a way to go down them as well. Many Colorado buses come equipped with retarders that can be life savers as well as brake savers.

You definitely want a RE if you are going to be mounting a motorcycle carrier on the front. Something that large is going to block air flow and cause overheating on an FE bus.

Definitely look for a bus with big HP and highway gearing. It is much less expensive to get what you want than to regear or pump up the HP later on.

Most school buses do not have interior height higher than 78". You may want to consider a city/suburban transit bus as they generally have much higher ceilings. If you can find a suburban transit they generally have bigger HP are geared for highway speed.

All school buses have roofs that are designed to not crush under a least 2x the weight of the bus. So any school bus should be able to support a roof deck.
